Our Founding
On April 7, 1976, Christ Memorial Baptist Church was organized under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Williams at the international Masons and Eastern Star building located at 912 Drayton Street in Savannah, GA. Seven deacons and four deaconesses were appointed and the church adopted as it’s motto.
A Brief History
Upon learning that the Church of the Nazarene located at 1402 Harmon Street at Anderson was for sale, the pastor, along with the deacons, set out to investigate the matter. On October 28, 1977, the structure was purchased and on December 4, 1997 Christ Memorial held the first worship service in their new “church home.”
During his eleventh year as pastor, Rev. Williams resigned and in July 1988, Rev. Michael Evans was called as the second pastor of Christ Memorial. Under the leadership of Pastor Evans, new deacons, deaconess and many new members were added to the Church. In September 1990, Pastor Evans relocated to Columbia, South Carolina to pastor a church there.
Modern Day
For the next nine months Christ Memorial was left without a shepherd. Then, on May 14, 1991, Minister Larry L. Broxton was installed as the third and present Pastor.
In June 2012, we moved into our new Church home at 1023 Dutchtown Road, where we not only continue to grow numerically, but above all, growing spiritually in Faith!
The past has been encouraging, the present is blooming with promise and by faith the future shines bright. At Christ Memorial Baptist Church we believe in praising and serving God.
