About
Our history
Fifty years of faith in Savannah
1976
The founding
On April 7, 1976, Christ Memorial Baptist Church was organized under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Williams at the International Masons and Eastern Star building at 912 Drayton Street in Savannah. Seven deacons and four deaconesses were appointed, and the church adopted its founding motto.
“The Church That Is a New Movement for Christ”
1977
A new home on Harmon Street
Upon learning that the Church of the Nazarene at 1402 Harmon Street was for sale, Pastor Williams and the deacons set out to investigate. On October 28, 1977, the structure was purchased, and on December 4, 1977, Christ Memorial held its first worship service in their new church home.
During his eleventh year as pastor, Reverend Williams resigned. In July 1988, Reverend Michael Evans was called as the second pastor. Under his leadership, new deacons, deaconesses, and many new members were added. In September 1990, Pastor Evans relocated to Columbia, South Carolina to lead a church there.
1991
A new pastor
For the next nine months, Christ Memorial was without a shepherd. Then, on May 14, 1991, Minister Larry L. Broxton was installed as the third pastor. Under his leadership, the church grew steadily, deepening its commitment to discipleship and community service.

Our church home today
In June 2012, Christ Memorial moved into our current church home at 1023 Dutchtown Road. Here, we have not only continued to grow numerically but, above all, grown spiritually in faith.
The past has been encouraging. The present is blooming with promise. By faith, the future shines bright. At Christ Memorial Baptist Church, we believe in praising and serving God.
And so we are
The Victory Church
Where Jesus is Lord
